Set in 1892, HOSTILES tells the story of a legendary Army Captain (Christian Bale), who, after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Wes Studi) and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico, to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow (Rosamund Pike) whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche, and vicious outliers that they encounter along the way.

  • Great acting and cinematography but..

I enjoyed the movie and thought the acting was fantastic from everyone in it. The story has a few built in mini stories that leave it to you to interpret and assume which I like, but it makes the main plot get lost in the shuffle. Overall worth the time if you like this genre.
  • Two thumbs up!

    A great lesson about humankind!
  • Good and Bad

Rosamund Pile makes this movie. So I liked most of it. I hated the final gunfight because it is the standard rotten-to-the-core rancher thing. To quote Walter Brennan in Red River: "I hate strangers 'cus the never goodnewsed me" Montana in 1892 had 1 person per 1000 sq. miles, Will penny is more accurate. People out there on their own were never going to see a random rancher on patrol, let alone four or five.
  • Truly Great Film

I rented this movie because it was on sale but I was very impressed with the acting, storyline and all that made this a truly entertaining movie!
  • Hyper-violent & Unintelligible

    By Mission Accomplished
Half the time I thought the soldiers were speaking Russian or Martian. The Indian chief who was dying of cancer seemed awfully healthy. The script was hyper-violent and the women were abused very badly. Not much fun to watch.

Had great potential with Bale, Pike and Studi but made it a politically correct western. No mixed race U.S. Calvary at this time. Why can not Hollywood make an authentic western movie and not re-write history in the lenses of the 21st Century.
  • Plays with your emotions

Great movie and very well put together. Takes the glory of being a cowboy and opens your eyes to just a few of the real struggles people faced.
  • Top notch acting ! Very underrated

    By thequin
Very underrated indeed. Christian Bale is outstanding, but they were all at their career best acting wise in my opinion. This film forced everyone to be real artists, and really work the art of acting. Not a fly by night film put together quickly for profit. The entire movie was a work of art for the love of true film making.
