Especially considering the book I’m really surprised they made a coherent movie out of it. Did a damned good job. Very original and enjoyable.

The acting, suspense, and mystery this films achieves is beyond everything I was hoping for and then some. To add, the awesome score, and new ideas that this film brought had me thinking for days on end after watching this movie. If you’re a fan of director Alex Garlands previous work or were fans of movies like Interstellar or Avatar you’ll like this flick, and if you didn’t like those movies...watch Annihilation anyway

  • Slow as dirt, predictable.

This movie is terribly slow and despite the attempt to surprise with a few twists and shocking moments, it never moves past dull and ends at predictable.

It starts rather slowly and somewhat muddled. However... The film builds to a magnificent crescendo that doesn't disappoint!!!

    I really liked it
  • Slow-burner? Just slow. NOT thought provoking. One good scene, and great eerie soundtrack

I watched this with a few friends, and we all had the same feeling afterward: what did we just watch, and why did it so many others think it was so good? We struggled to get through it. "Slow burner" can be used to describe great classics of SF like "Blade Runner" but should not be used to describe this movie. Leave off "-burner" and just call this movie plain "slow". The cinematography was interesting, but not “beautiful” (as some reviewers have stated) by any stretch of the imagination; weird / esoteric images don’t make something beautiful (except in one’s own mind). I completely agree with another reviewer here: the female lead character (protagonist) and her husband had absolutely no chemistry. This isn't to say that the strong indifference their relationship implied was a result, but apathy between them was extremely contradictory to their dialog. There was one 5-minute scene (as mentioned by another reviewer) that was quite good, but one scene doesn’t make a movie. It’s been a long time since I can recall any SF, thriller, or other genre of movie where the music itself gave me chills. Kudos to the composer for pulling that off. A musical refrain was tied so perfectly to this one scene, and it was downright eerie. The ending of this film was strange, but predictable. The film could be summed up as an arcane, or abstruse story masquerading as cabalistic SF. Wait for a discounted rental price if you feel you must watch.

The above title says it all.
  • "I got hella footage"

To start I was hesitant to buy/watch this after watching the Amazon exclusive interview with Portman whining about feminism and of all people, she the most pampered Jewish shill of Hollywood(given a free ride her entire life) poses as a liberator of the female species made me loath of watching it. My love of 'good' Science Fiction dared me to take a chance... it's horrible. Every sickening modern social subversive agenda is introduced within the first 15 or so minutes; the white wife having sex/an affair with the 'supposed' irresistible black man/scientist lol, the shameless horny lesbian accepted by all without hesitation, the scrawny Portam wielding an assault rifle without effort only to be explained later by her mentioning that not only was she a brainiac biologist but she'd also done a stint in the ARMY. A band of 5 women venture into the 'refraction zone' where a strange force or infection, alien? has/is metamorphosizing and exanding region threatening to engulf the entire planet in a prismatic mutation hell, reflecting DNA in eternal degrees of exponential evolution creating horrors, wonders... something new. The tale is told in retrospective flash backs, jump forwards, slip sideways, lateral horizontal shimmies. The women venture forth with narry a care, not a trace of worry or apprehension as the fate of humanity hangs int he ballance. I stopped watching with about 44 minute to go to write this. Feminists should be insulted by this garbage, it's an embarrassment to humanity not a blessing of enlightening entertainment. This reminds me of the old environmental Sci-Fi/horror flick The Prophecy which was about the lumber industry using mercury and poisoning the environment mutating the wildlife creating a mutant bearbest that mangles the local folk... only that was entertaining for it's time. Yes as my title suggests, one of the ghetto members of the band of feminist saviors states "I got hella footage" via a memory card they find left behind by the previous squad of men sent into the 'prismatic refractal DNA morpher zone'. The 'critics' and 5 star rating have shill fodder, this movie can't possble muster a 0.1 star. The visuals aren't that interesting, the Sc-Fi aspects are negligibly boring, the scares or surprises are almost nonexistent, the acting is bland and fruitless, the plot is redundant and pompous. So no soundtrack, no acting, horrible dialogue and acting, stupid characters pumped up by feminist bluster and hollow gestures. 0.1/5 stars. Watched the ending, doesn't change my opinion. Basically a doppelganger theme, a really long, pointlessly drawn out movie much more boring than Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

First half hour gets you hooked. But then it turns into complete and boring non sense. And, my friends, the end is not much less than pathetic.
