Description

From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

Went into this movie with no expectations, I didn’t read the book (yet) and had no idea what this was even about. I was floored at the visual ingenuity and hundreds of Easter eggs that brought my early years of life back. It was easily one of my favorite movies from 2018 and couldn’t wait until it came onto iTunes as I made my preorder the second on got home and have watched it dozens of times since. Instant classic. Thank you Spielberg for this wonderful movie.
  • OHH AHH New Special Effects Techniques

The movie is more about showing off multi-million special effects techniques used to create the task scenes. A whole lot of action too bad there was no story to go along with it. Had flashbacks of the last Harry Potter movie it was more about the special effects battles than attempting to tell a story. Which in a nutshell is: Here's the characters and plot 15-20min then effects effects effects effects effects effects bit of plot effects effects effects ok wrap it up were almost out of film finale end scene. Maybe the book was great and if you only were watching this to see the effects and pop references then it may be ok if you don't want it to be anywhere close to the book (according to the person I went with, but was there for the effects) I was ready to leave at 75 min.... but still had an hour to go.. Unfortunately some of the studios have forgotten how to tell a story and just want to show off the new effects and "see what we can do with our new cgi, and virtual reality. If you want to see the tech watch this, if you want a storyline and some form of plot look elsewhere. Oh the critics that review films all love it because they are incented to do so.

This movie although pretty to look at is a horrible bastardization of the story. Read the book instead, it is so much better

Make the computer generated graphics action too busy to follow and throw in a lot of vulgarity because that seems to be where our society thrives and you’ll have this film. At least the plot was ..... nah nothing new there either. Hero fights evil business empire and its CEO.

I enjoy the more visually stimulating movies that present the viewer with a full enaging experience. Valerian and the Galaxy movies are of the same visually enjoyable genre. This techno based action and adventure movie has the qualities of being both visually stimulating but also a fun peek at the future of what VR might bring and how it will be commercialised and sold to the masses. The story line is fun and the acting is well done. Definitely a great Saturday evening movie you will ewant to watch over and over again.
